Bento Box Attempt #1

Yesterday I was SO EXCITED about the Bento Box idea! While at work I ordered a super-cute Japanese-style Bento Box and a few accessories. They should arrive sometime next week. After I met with a friend after work, I ran over to the bookstore. Unfortunately Borders did not have any cookbooks on making Bento Boxes (insert sad face) but I did find a book on small-portion cooking, called “Small Bites.” I am going to look through this book and pull out some interesting recipes to try.

Then I ran to the grocery store and stocked up on all kinds of goodies! I bought more fruits and veggies then I’m ever going to consume. In the  tupperware aisle, I found this mock-bento thing called “EZ-Freeze Stay-Fit.”  The lid has a freezer pack to keep your food fresh, and there’s a compartment for holding your silverware/chopsticks in the lid. The bottom has three segments.  As soon as I got home I whipped up my first attempt. I think I did pretty well! The whole thing clocks in at under 300 calories and has fruits, veggies, carbs, and protein. I doubt I’ll eat the whole thing, but it’s nutritionally-sound; much better than my normal soup-from-a-can shtick.
