The nicest lunch!

Today I had the nicest lunch!

Sometimes I lose sight of the fact that I work in such an amazing city. Today it was 73 degrees, sunny, and absolutely amazing. It was a joy to walk down the street, take in the sunshine, see the puffy white clouds, smell the beautiful flowers blooming along the street, and banter with the shop owners sitting outside for a quick break.  The city has amazing brownstone buildings with amazing architectural detail, historical monuments, and amazing views. The following photos are (mostly) taken along my walk this afternoon. Most of these sights I can see from my office window. The two statues got cut off in the thumbnails for some reason, so be sure to click on them to see the full images! (I can see my prison cell office window in one of these pictures!)

I made my way to a small, no-name bar called Footsy Magoos. I was the only patron there. The food is wonderful, the atmosphere is trendy-low-profile-cool, and the bartender/owner was quite chatty with me today. I ordered a cosmo that she made extra-strong, and some chips/salsa/guacamole.  She asked me, “Have you read the book, Skinny Bitch?” Thanks to my friend Celeen, I have, and I told her so. She looked at me oddly and asked, “Then…how is it that you’re eating that?”

I looked down at my food, which, granted, may not have been the optimal healthy choice and told her the truth. “I’ve lost 83 pounds in the last year. What’s working for me is the fact that I deny myself nothing, but I don’t eat a lot at any given time. I ‘graze’ six times a day, eating small meals. But I consider nothing off limits to me. It works, and I’m a lot happier eating this way instead of depriving myself from everything and achieving minimal results.”  She high-fived me and gave me my drink for free! She was very cool and I highly recommend the place. I’ve been there about five times already and plan on going back again!

Great pics and your lunch sounds awesome!

I am taking hatha yoga. I tried Ashtanga yoga before and it almost killed me…

    Have a great weekend!

Hatha yoga! That’s the hot yoga, right? But with a goodly emphasis on meditation? I took Ashtanga for years and loved it. The yoga I take now is kind of like yoga-on-crack, but it’s fun!

Christine- we have a really similar take on how we eat now. I can’t have off limit foods or I go crazy. It’s obviously working for you.
    Sounds like a great day!

P.S. I had I hard time finding out how to leave a comment so hopefully this works.

OK Christine – what Troy are you from? My husband is from Troy NY and we go up there a lot. I just saw Troy labeled on your pictures. We’re going up this summer, let me know if you’d be interested in getting together.
