Biography written by contributor Katie Bray
Christine lives in upstate New York with her supportive husband, Aaron, and the coolest cat on the planet. Christine writes and maintains Phoenix Revolution. More than just a blog, Phoenix Revolution provides a safe haven for women and men all over the world to come together to discuss real-life weight loss strategies. Christine’s expertise in healthy living, eating disorders, exercise, and gastric banding surgery is the cornerstone on which the site’s content is built. However, overcoming her weight obstacles did not come to her easily.
Christine’s time in college was spent discovering who she was (the good and the bad), working hard, studying abroad, and enthusiastically embracing English literature and technical writing. Christine received her Masters of Science degree with a 4.0 and honors.
It was during these college years that Christine realized she had Binge Eating Disorder. Pressing life’s traumas deep into herself, Christine had begun coping in the best way she could. Upon her realization that she was clinically obese and had to correct her physical lifestyle, Christine went into a downward spiral of overexercising, under eating, and the binge/purge cycle. However, nothing seemed to help her Binge Eating Disorder, and she slipped slowly into a depression that would envelope her life for some time.

Christine’s first sign of hope came in her late twenties. She had seen seven different doctors in a five year period and nothing had worked. The weight was still on, the eating disorder was still there, and Christine was still a shadow of the person she knew she could be. She resolved to look into gastric banding surgery. Christine didn’t think she would qualify because of her binge eating and depression, but she knew she had to try. She spoke to her doctor and after numerous tests and consultations, Christine was approved! She underwent the surgery on February 27, 2009, and is still in the process of losing all her weight. She describes this as one of the happiest times in her life.
For ten years, Christine has volunteered as a member, moderator, or administrator of several eating disorder forums. After hearing about pro-ana websites in college, Christine was intrigued. She initially found Project Shapeshift and quickly became a co-moderator, then administrator. Christine was the go-to person for anything a member could need. When Project Shapeshift began to flounder, Christine knew she had to do something. The devastating demise of Project Shapeshift in 2008 led to the birth of Phoenix Revolution. This community is still growing and thriving thanks to the perseverance and expertise of Christine.
